Large Neodymium Crescent magnets Hard drive assembly

We still have a few boxes of these large old hard drive arc magnets/ crescent magnets/ crescent shaped magnets. Some folks have taken apart hard drives and found the arc magnets/ crescent magnets/ crescent shaped magnets inside, these are much larger than most. Each assembly contains two crescent shaped magnets about 2 inches long and 3/8 inch thick, which are very impressive, each arc magnets/ crescent magnets/ crescent shaped magnets can pick up about 50 pounds of steel! Each crescent magnet has a steel 'bracket' behind it which serves as a nice handle In the picture you can see the assembly, and then below the ruler is one of the magnets with the torx bit stuck to it.

Safety Notes about Super Strong Magnets Ring Magnets

Ø  Keep magnets away from electronics. Strong magnetic field produced by magnets may affect and cause damages to electronic appliances.

Ø  Handle magnets carefully. Neodymium magnets are strongly attracted and snap together quickly.

Ø  Be attentive with your fingers and other protruding body parts! It is necessary to behave with extreme caution and use protective gloves while handling bigger magnets. Moreover, magnets are breakable and should be handled carefully.

Ø  Keep magnets away from young children and pets. Neodymium magnets are not toys and are not suitable for playing, particularly to young children!

Ø  Be patient and careful when separating the magnets. If you need to separate neodymium magnets, they can usually be separated by sliding the magnet off the stack.

Project of Ring Magnets

Ring Magnets are important components of speakers. Magnets can distort the sound of the speaker, but they do not permanently affect the sound. This is because there are two magnets inside the speaker, both repels with each other and creates vibrations. Then the vibrations travel through the wires into the cone of the speaker from which the sound comes out. While putting another magnet close to the speaker, it disrupts the repel of the two magnets inside the speaker, thus distorting the sound.

Project of PMSG Magnet

PMSG (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) is a generator where the excitation field is provided by a permanent magnet 

instead of electromagnet with coil. Synchronous refers to the fact that the rotor and magnetic field rotate with the same speed,

because the magnetic field is generated by shaft mounted permanent magnet mechanism and current is induced into the stationary armature.

Such PMSG are commonly used to convert the mechanical power output of steam turbines, gas turbines, reciprocating engines 

and hydro turbines into electrical power for the grid.
